When it comes to performance gains, Windows might have a slight edge over Apple machines in Rhino v7, particularly when it comes to the display pipeline. However, this is expected to change with future updates of Rhino.

Currently, Rosetta is being used as a temporary solution until Rhino can be optimized to run natively on Apple Silicon. While not a native application, users and developers have reported that Rhino runs smoothly on M1 processors, even better than similar Intel-powered machines.

Apple's Rosetta 2 technology attempts to translate Intel applications for use on Apple Silicon, but it's important to note that this is not the same as a native app. Despite this, Rhino 7 for Mac is compatible with Apple Silicon Macs running macOS Big Sur 11.3 and later.

For new purchases, we recommend choosing an M1-based machine unless you have specific requirements that make an Intel-powered option necessary. Currently, only some older iMacs and the Mac Pro are still equipped with Intel processors, but these will likely be replaced soon.

In the near future, all new Apple laptops and desktops will be powered by Apple Silicon processors, including variations of the M1 CPU. As Apple continues to transition its hardware to this technology, it's clear that Rhino will need to adapt to keep up.
